Symantec ha publicado en su zona Beta hotfixex para BackupExec 2010 R3 para su utilización para realizar backups sobre vSphere 5 (si se dispone de la licencia evidentemente).
- Hotfix 159965: This is an AVVI (Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure) and Deduplication Hotfix that has completed internal testing and is in the final external posting process. You should install this BEFORE the VMware vSphere 5.0 support patch.
- VMware vSphere 5.0 support (164220): This is a patch that includes the VMware vSphere 5.0 gold SDK (from VMware) to enable support of all VMware vSphere 5.0 functionality. REQUIRES the above Hotfix (159965) to be installed first.
- Backup Exec Management Plug-in (v2) for VMware: This is the gold release of the 2nd version of the plug-in and if you had either the 1st version or the Release Candidate of the 2nd version, you will need to first uninstall them via the Windows Add/Remove programs feature applet.
Requirements:
- Backup Exec 2010 R3 must be installed and protecting one or more VMware virtual machines (VMs).
- Maintenance for Backup Exec must be kept current so that you can contact support for issues unrelated to these new feature sets. Partners without Symantec support access can enter the program with the understanding that the scope of this program will not be to troubleshoot or resolve existing and/or unrelated Backup Exec 2010 R3 issues.
- Plug-in: For the plug-in, you must have a compatible version of the VMware vSphere client (see ReadMe for details)
- VM Validator: As the ReadMe for the plug-in mentions, you’ll need VMware Workstation 7.0.x or 7.1.x for the Validator functionality. Make sure to read the ReadMe for hardware and disk space requirements per VM that is being validated.
- VMware vSphere 5.0 Support: If you install Hotfix 159965 and the VMware vSphere 5.0 support patch, you will need to follow up with push installs of the updated remote agents to any relevant machines (e.g. VMs where you have the remote agents installed for Exchange or SQL GRT functionality and client-side Deduplication machines)
Time frame:
- This is a short First Availability program and we will need to get any key feedback within just a couple of weeks so please be sure to expect early requests for feedback on your experience with these new product offerings.
